working on record label site. need to put up some MP3 files with full band tracks to be listened to but dont want users to be able to download from web. know it can be done but anyone know how i most simply prevent the old right-clik...save as......

Dont put the files on as an MP3 file with a href.

If you place the MP3's onto the site then you'll always have an issue, as the files will always be stored somwhere on the users PC so they can listen to it.

My reccomendation would be to inbed the files into a flash player or somthing along those line, its alot more difficult to extract anything once its been inbedded somewhere.

There is a load of flash based media players on the net for download, from memory i found some on somwhere.

It'll mean a little more work for you creating the files, but it will keep them secure, the only other thought i have, which i've seen plenty of amature bands use is to provide 30 second snippets in mp3 format, that way the user can download if they want to, but its a little pointless, yet it still gives them a jist of the bands sound.

Yup embed the files in a flash file or live with the fact that someone will be able to dl

Flash wont hold em up but it does deter the average user.

u'd be suprised with all the hipe of mp3 players what people are willing to do...especially if he is posting full songs.
Perhaps a full blown solution would work:

I guess u can always look into a 'streaming' concept...depends how big of a site ur building...perhaps a Shoutcast...or

Why convert to .ram .. with a link in a .rm file. They can be listened without being downloadable. Real Producer to convert the mp3 to ram is FREE.

I post the converted mp3 (.ram)... to my site. But I create a text file using notepad (.rm), that points to the actual audio file. So the link on my site is to the .rm file not the .ram file.

I think you can do the same with mp3's.

u can point to playlist file..but again reading an MP3 playlist file reveals the location of soundtracks.
real player files are not bad way to go....
