I built a database for a multi-user environment, and have lately been getting this error a lot. It is very disrupting to all of our daily work.

I've searched this list and have not found a solution. Does anyone have any idea how I can avoid this problem altogether?

It is very frustrating...

some possibilities:

1) is your mdb file on a share with no restricted permissions? all users must have read/write/create permissions (because an ldb file is created every time a user opens an mdb file). if not, i've had problems when someone who only has READ access opens the db, it locks out everyone else.

2) some user has set their db properties in Access to be to open EXCLUSIVE (tools-options-Advanced-Default Open Mode) not likely cause most users don't poke around and mess with settings like that, and the error message has the word 'exclusive' in it.

3) try searching the knowledgebase at for parts of your error message and see if any articles come up. I just tried but looks like their site is down at this moment.
