Good afternoon,

Have an Excel spreadsheet that is going to be distributed to multiple users. Am looking for a way to restrict their ability to make changes (entries) other than to the three columns where their input(update)is needed. I am trying to prevent them from changing the entries in the other columns but do want to allow them to add (but not delete) rows.

Have turned on workbook sharing and track changes and have set password for protection. However can still make changes to the entries that are there. Have also checked that the columns where I want to prevent entry are locked.

Anyone have any ideas? Any help on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

RBPM,

The locking won't take effect until you click on Tools \Protection \ Protect Sheet. BTW - is this a single spreadsheet to be shared, or multiple copies of a file? Also, does each user need to have access to the same cells for data entry, or different ones. I'm not sure how (if the file is shared), for example, to lock Column A for Johnny but have it availble for Billy.

Hope this helps!
Tim

You need to select the cells you want them to access and choose (after right clicking) Format Cells > Protection Tab then uncheck the 'locked' box.

Then go to Tools > Protection and protect the sheet.

They will be able to change values in only the cells you manually unlocked.
