Hello all,

My prefetch folder and the registry key "EnablePrefetcher" was missing. I recreated a folder "Prefetch" and the registry key. The value assigned is "3" (decimal) of DWORD format.

Still my prefetch folder is empty, after 4 days of setting it up? Any ideas?

Also, what could have caused the deletion, and no, I didn't delete it accidently.

Thank you.

This key?

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManagerMemoryManagement\PrefetchParameters

On the EnablePrefetcher value, change the setting from 3 to 5 (decimal).

Close the registry editor.

Restart your computer.

On an average computer in average use the MRU table for candidates for the prefetch folder would be three days before entries are made to the table. So your experience may not be odd.

It is worriesome to me that the folder and registry entry just disappeared. Have you disabled the Protective File System?

Bcastner:

Will change to 5 later today.

It baffled me too that those files were missing. I regularly update and run my virus, and I have a firewall installed.

Oh well, I can always repair the whole thing if problems persists.

Thank you for the help.

Bcastner and all:

Still no luck .... the folder is empty even when changed to 5 ..... do I have to wait out 3 more days? .... or just reinstall the OS?

Thank you.

Forgot to ask earlier, your Task Scheduler service is set to automatic and running, right?

The task Scheduler is set to auto and running. Will wait for a few more days. If no luck, then will wait until the comp slows down and reinstall the OS.

Thank you.

Remember it only gets to populate during idle periods. If you are aggresively using the computer this reduces the idle time available to it.

I certainly would not reinstall over this feature. Many power users disable the prefetch completely.

Thanx Bacastner ..... I definitely am a power-user :)

so have disabled all the reporting etc features.
