Hi,

Any reason why this would not be practical? Can you get an extra IPSI card for a remote G650 cabinet and have the Avaya business partner configure it exactly like the existing/working IPSI and ship it to us so we can then keep it at the site in question to only be used if the working IPSI fails? I assume the IPSI card would keep it's programming indefinitely even if it's just sitting in a box, unpowered/not installed?

If this worked out, it would be a lot more cost effective for us to ensure our remote sites with G650 cabinets had some protection from a prolonged outage instead of paying a vendor to go to each site to do the install and config. In my proposed scenario, we'd have one of our employees (in IT) swap out the IPSI in case of a failure of the existing IPSI.

Make sense? Will the unpowered IPSI keep it's programming?

It will work, however, if you have ESS servers at that site, then you will need to do a "license serial # swap out" when putting in the replacement IPSI, or the remote ESS server will go into license failure.

The IPSI Serial Number is used to license the main servers, ESS or LSP servers as well.

Do you have multiple G650's at each site, or just one? If multiple, install the second IPSI in the second G650 to offer redundancy...

IP Phones or DCP/Analog? If IP, you could have them register to another site and use the resources from the other site to make ext-to-ext and outbound calls. This doesn't help for inbound calling though... And if they're DCP/Analog - then everything's going to be down.

Thanks,

How do you do the license serial number swap? I've looked around and I don't see where you'd do there. I know on the server you can upload a license file, but if you're talking about editing a license file I'm not sure how to do that.

Avaya RFA or PLDS is where a serial number license swap is done. Usually, Avaya or your Business Partner would do this for you.

Ok. In that case, my idea doesn't really seem practical in the interest of getting service back ASAP in the case of an IPSI failure.

It will work, but yor switch will go into "license failure", and you will have 30 days to get it fixed, before you won't be able to make any changes to the switch programming. The license file could be upodated in those 30 days.

Also, if you have a 2nd G650, you can setup duplicated IPSI's.

Thanks. I think we'll just bite the bullet and pay to have techs at the local sites install the second IPSI. Seems like the best way to go for us, even though it's going to cost more up front.
