PPTP...what is it?

I have read through a few VPN threads in regards to PPTP. The client built into Windows is not the same that is on my dsl router...is this true? Can someone clarify. It stated the router PPTP is for "Europe only" but they can't be a different protocol...Can they?

In the future everything will work...
