Power supply 4

I have done some mods to my PC, but haven't hooked all the fans up (as I don't think my power supply will hold up).

My current power supply is a CODEGEN 300w. I want some suggestions as to what power supply I should use to power the following:

2 x HDDs
2 x CDROM/CDRW
1 x Floppy
4 x Case Fan (80mm)
1 x Chipset cooler (Thermaltake crystal)

Currently I am looking at either:

Thermaltake 480W (Dual Fan)
Antec TruePower 480W
Antec TruePower 550W

Would any of these be sufficient. Which is better?

Any help or insight appreciated.

Antec is a reliable brand.
The 480W unit should have enough punch to run all of your components.
But if you plan to add more devices down the road, then go with the 550W unit.

I have a ThermalTake Silent PurePower W0014RU 480W with 5 HD's, 3 fans, floppy, CD burnner, dvd drive and I have never had a problem with power. Save a few bucks and get a few more nice options with the thermaletake

What you have listed isn't that much.
What video card and CPU are you running?
I would say with what you have listed the Codegen 300watt would probably just about cope, then again I am a great believer in the vertues of fitting a quality power supply with a reserve of power.
When you've seen as many dead hard drives and motherboards as I have, caused by blown power supplies you realise the value of a quality PSU.
Any of the PSU's mentioned would be MORE than adequate, I personally don't see the need for the 550watter, the 480's are still overkill but will give you decent upgrade potential.
Again both makes have a fine reputation so you won't go far wrong with either.
Is the Truepower a single fan unit? if so I prefer dual fans, they definately improve system cooling.

One last question:

The power supplys with two fans. Does installing one of these require that I cut a hole in the top of my PC for the fan?

No because the fan faces down drawing warm air off the CPU area, thats why generally a twin fan unit will drop CPU and case temps a couple of degrees over a single fan PSU.

You should not have to cut a hole in your computer's case for the 2nd fan.
Normally, a PS with 2 fans has one fan installed in a vent facing downward toward the computer's interior sucking in, and the other fan installed in a vent facing outward from the back of the computer blowing out.
