I am trying to replace a bad power supply. The one I purchased has a 20+4 pin plug. There is a capacitor right beside the plug on the mb and will not let me plug the power supply up. Is there an adapter available? the only power supplies I can find are 20+4 pin.

Usually the four pins you do not require will seperate from the other 20 pins, look it over and see if it will detach

Indeed,
20+4 is exactly what it says it is:
Twenty pin plug
PLUS A
Four pin plug

So by it's very name they are DETACHABLE.
