I sometimes use a black background in a table cell with white text as a header for a column. However I've noticed that the white text doesn't show up when I print a document even though it's clearly visible in the slide show.

Any idea.

If using 2003 change your view to Color/Greyscale, Greyscale (if 2000, to Black and White). This is the way it prints on black and white printers. So, now, you won't be able to view the text that does not print. So right click on the text box, go to Greyscale setting (if 2000, black and white), click on automatic.

as an aside, unless you are defining that the printer print the background, it is printing - white text on white paper. printers treat colour differently than the real world: in the printer world white is absence of colour; in the real world white is all colours.
