Power options - Control panel

We have some users here who go into standby mode even though we have the power options set to always on and never off. I realize they're logged off so maybe they're settings aren't being used, but other users are logged off and they don't go into standby. How can I get the power options to stay on for these users once they've logged off?

Anyone user setting you like, other than whatever user you are using under the current logon. The MSFT KB:

is reasonably clear, but it wants to ensure that the copy is not being done from a profile user that is currently logged on and active.

(The reason for all this hocus pocus is that it wants the registry portion that is saved as a Hive in a profile to be closed prior to a copy operation.)

I hope this makes sense. It essentially means that you need at least temporarily two Administrator level users to copy Administrator1 settings (as Admninistrator2) to the Default User profile.

Okay. All our staff pc's belong to our network domain. On her pc I am a domain user. So I logged in as myself to our domain on her pc and set the power to always on. Then I logged off and logged in as the administrator of her pc and copied my profile to the default profile. Seemed to go fine. So my settings should have overwritten the default settings right? I logged in as a new domain user who had never logged in before so she should have gotten my settings, but she didn't. The monitor still says it will turn off in 20 minutes.

. logon as a user with a power scheme you like
. Start, Run regedit
. Right click and Export to a file named power_fix.reg the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg

. Export this key as power_backup.reg :
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\PowerCfg

. close regedit
. make a backup copy of power_fix.reg
. open the Exported file power_fix.reg and do a find/replace on:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\

Replace the found text with:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\

. Finally, double click the edited power_fix.reg file to merge the contents with the registry. Reboot and test.

You can always revert the changes by using the backup of power_fix.reg, and the Exported file power_backup.reg

I will try that. Although, I think what I did on Friday sort of worked because when I came in today her monitor was not off and the screen saver was running even though she was logged out. So the default must have changed successfully. I'll the registry thing though cause I'm not sure why new users are still getting the monitor off after 20 minute setting.

Okay I logged in as myself, set my power options as always on and did the registry edit. Then I logged in as a new user and still the monitor says it will turn off in 20 minutes. So either new users are not getting the default settings or I have not correctly changed the default settings. Is this because we are logging into our network domain and not just to windows?

Roaming users? It should handle those depending on your lockdown state.
Have you gone to mandatory user profiles?
Have you used DeepFreeze or GoBack to revert profiles?

As what I scripted above is very aggressive in terms of the power profiles for any current, and any new user. Unless I am being blocked from making the perisistent change by NTFS permissions(very possible), or NT Rights (possible, but unlikely), or Group Policy (possible, but unlikely), or a mandatory profile(Hmmmmmm).
