Hello,

I have a Compaq Evo d500 sff with w2k loaded. Yesterday somone spilled some coffee into the pc. Not much got onto the pc but it was enough to notice when I opened up the case. There was some drops on the motherboard and the extra pci slot. Anyways I dried out the board completely and then put everything back and powered it up. I got power but no display. The nic lights up but cd rom opens but no display. I also did not hear the normal post beeps either. Troubleshooting that route I removed the memory and hard drive to force it to beep but nothing. I even swapped the agp card for a pci card and nothing. No display or post. I think I have narrowed it down to the board (for the no beeps). What do you guys think? Can it be the processor? if so is there a way to see besides taking the processor to another board? I ask because I dont have another pc.

thanks

If there is no beeps what so ever im guessing your board is dead. However just in case wait for others to reply for they may have another opinion or idea.

Thanks for a quick response. If the board is fried why would the board still light up and why would the onboard nic light up also?

Thanks

A board can do many things when messed up , they can boot and everything and just not pick one part. Or sometimes they wont turn on at all. Electronics is well known for bringing up surprises. The reason the nic could light up if its damanged only certain parts of the board may be damaged however the traces running power to the nic card probally were not touched so they are still working. Keep in mind boards are sensitive a simple thing such as a static shock can kill them. Pain in the butt sometimes but thats how they are.

Ok thanks,

If the board is fried would it also fry or damage the processor? I dont want to replace the board only to find out that it also damaged the processor when I can go and get another evo for a bit more?
