Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 410 CDT laptop which power light was always green (showing ON), and it is now red. Since then I have had many weird problems. After re-installing the OS I think it may be a hardware issue. Does any one know what it means if the power light is red (or amber) instead of green in this laptop?

Thank you for any pointers,

Patricia.

It's either a battery problem or you are stuck in some kind of standby mode. Take the battery out and just run on ac power and see if that works. Also check the tsetup program( if this model uses it) Here you can change the startup options to boot instead of resume to avoid the standby problem.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that did this same thing. It was a bad battery.

Thank you for the quick responses. I tried it last night (left it on AC power) and removed the standby (the hard drive was set to turn off after 15 minutes), and finally was able to use the laptop normally, at least for a while.

For example, before, Find/Search windows in the Explorer would open one after another, leaving the laptop without memory and preventing it to do anything else. Also, whenever a folder in the Explorer was highlighted, it would change to be renamed, preventing me from highlighting any other folder.

After taking the standby and the battery, this stopped, I was able to use the laptop for 2 hours without problems. This morning after rebooting it did it again one time, we´ll see what it does tonight. Also, the power light continues to be amber even though I removed the battery and took out the standby.

If anyone has seen anything similar and has some ideas, please share. In the meantime, I am grateful for the responses and glad I could work for a while. By the way, the battery was charging normally and taking over ok when the laptop was unplugged. I never thought the battery would cause the problems I was encountering with the Find windows opening up and such.
