Pound symbol changed to J

Help me out here will ya guys. I got a lil problem thats driving me bonkers . for some strange reason my Pound symbol changes to the letter J so anything with a pound sign in my IE6 brouser has the letter J instead

Any Ideas

Under IE, View
Select Encoding
Select 'Western European (Windows)'

in the alternative:
Select 'Western European (ISO)'

If you enable 'Auto Select' under that menu, you likely will get changed by a javascript somewhere done the way to 'Unicode' and you do not want that.
