...is this possible. i have used whatsmyip.org to check my ip address and yet it always remains the same no matter what. i connect to the internet through a bog standard adsl modem/router. thanks all :)

The IP address you are seeing is your public IP address. This address is assigned to you by your ISP. The only way this will change is if your ISP gives you a different IP.

...i guess not then. thanks. any other ideas and i would be grateful.

Ideas about what?

IllogicallyLogical was correct. To expand a bit, if your ISP gives you a static IP, then it will probably never change (as long as you pay your bill). If your ISP gives a dynamic IP addresses, it will change (but probably not often)

Yes there is a way to renew your FIXED IP...

Contact your ISP and ask for another... Drawback, it may cost you to do this though...

What do you need to renew it for?
If it's a static IP Address, it won't expire, so there's no need to renew it.

If it's not a static IP address, Windows should automatically renew it for you after half the lease period. If you want to renew it before then, just go to a command prompt and type:
Code:
ipconfig /renew [i][name of adapter][/i]

Unplug your DSL modem over night and see if you get a new IP.
