Ok i usually dont do this but i am on my last nerve. I recently installed some switches in my case to control my cathodes. i took everything out and installed the switches. when i put everything back together my computer didnt work. It got by POST fine but then it would just not recognize my HD or Cd drive. i figured it was the HD so i replaced it. i plugged the new one in and it didnt work either. i thought it was my motherboard so i tested both previous HDs on a computer that i knew worked, and it told me that both were dead. So i replaced my motherboard and installed XP on a third HD on the second computer with no problems. i got by POST with the new motherboard so i decided to plug in the third HD with XP on it. Bad idea. Plugged it in, didnt work, tried it on the second computer, bear in mind that ran it no more than 10 minutes ago, and it said it was dead. So i think that the problem may be that the power supply is just burning up these drives and i am an idiot for throwing money at it. i would really like to hear an outside opinion of what to do.

My system:
AMD Athlon xp 2500+
Original MB - Abit NF7-S rev.2
replacement MB - CHAINTECH SKT600
1GB PC2700 DDR RAM (512 x2)
Ati radeon 9600xt
Xoxide X-Turbine case w/ original 450w power supply

Any chance that while wiring up the cathodes you possibly shorted something in the PSU? Grab/Borrow a multi-meter or PSU tester and get that thing checked out before you dump any more money into parts.

yes i tested it and it is completely junk. All the voltages are off but i dont feel comfortable going in and trying to fix it. thanks a lot for the suggestion. im going to get a new one and see how that works.

It's not worth repairing a fried PSU. New one's are cheap.
