Port to access OCTEL with ASA?? 1

I have read in the forum that it is possible to access OCTEL using ASA.

How do I determing the port to access my Octel System using ASA?

It's the OCTEL 250

if you are using it to IP in you must has a terminal server hooked to the octels asyc port. or you can just dial in with a modem using asa. If you are using a terminal server you pick the port when you set it up or use the default

Thanks, I do want to use IP for access.
And there is a terminal connected to the unit. But the problem is, I am not the one who set it up.

I am responsible for it now but have to determine what was configured, etc...

Is there a command or something I can check physically on the unit to determine the port to use for IP connectivity?

The first thing you will need to do is find out the IP of the unit. From there you can get into the telnet server and findout what port or ports it is setup for.

What kind of server is it and what is the model number?

I think we may be talking about 2 things here. the terminal on the octel would be a wyse or something like it but to IP into it you need a terminal server that converts rs 232 to an IP address that you can telnet into with Procomm.

ahhh.... sorry about that. Well I don't think one of these are attached. Is there a way to verify? How it looks, etc.

it looks like a pack of cig's with a cable running to one of the ports on the octel ccf card and a network card plugged in the other side.

I don't have that installed. I went back to look at the box and all I see is the modem and console ports with connectors on them.

Is it required to assign an IP address to the Octel when setting it up?

The reason I ask... Looking at all the documentation for the Definity and Octel, I see there are IP addresses assigned for both.

Ok, I just found this device back in our network room.

Lantronix with an Avaya UPC sticker. Even looks like a pack of cig's...

All that was with it is a power adapter. Is it a proprietary cable that I need? It looks like a 25pin to 15 pin cable would do the trick???

Oh... after checking the cards, this is what I see.

CCF CARD and LAN CARD:

LAN port:15pin
Sync port:15pin

Async 1/2/3 9pin

So I am guessing it's on an Async port on the CCF card?

yes you have to hook it to an async port that is programed in menu 6 as a console or smt port. you may need a null modem also
