Popup Blockers - How do they work???

Hi,

I was just wondering how Popup Blockers work such as the Google Toolbar and the Maxthon Adhunder???

Do they filter by the name of the window that opens, the name of images for words such as pop, ad etc?

Any info would be appreciated.

One technique is to overload the JavaScript "onunload" event handler.

Most of them work by tracking the clicks of users, and then only allowing a popup window for a certain timespan after that click (.2 seconds, for example).

This reasonably assures that a popup was requested by the user.
