Good Day ladies & gentlemen.
Exchange 2003 SP2
OS WIN 2003
Outlook 2003
SPAM Software - XWall

Ok, I'll be brief...
I have just started a new job. The other guy left which wasn't pleasant.
I have users that use a POP3 connection that are unable to receive mail but they can send mail ok. I have tested it from home witht he same result. Therefore it must not be their Outlook but something on the exchange server. Any ideas.
I did try SSL in Outlook and I did change the Admin password on the server when I started.
Any ideas...thanks
Randy

Ok I found the problem, the POP3 service was off. Therefore you need the POP3 service running to receive mail but not to send mail as long as you have a valid account.

Thanks
Randy

Isn't the purpose of pop3 to re-route e-mails from an alias? No need to use such a service for sending.

Randy,

POP3 is only for receiving email. When sending it goes over SMTP. That is why your users could send but not receive.

Rather than use POP which is considered antiquated, based on the configuration you have posted you could instead utilize Outlook over HTTP. Additionally you can use OWA.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
