I have a Pool setup to use two devices. How does legato handle backups? Will it use one device until it gets full or will it use both devices at the same time? I am thinking I am going to have to slit the device and do load balancing on my own but wanted to ask before I take on that task.

it will use only one device if the number of save sets that you are backing up is lower than the number (paralellism) configured for the device. I.e. if the device have configured 4 targets (save sets) and you are backing up 2 save sets (say c: and D
then only one device will be used. but if you are backuing up 5 save sets, so both devices will be used.
Read the Admin Guide about parallelism.
