Hi. I work in a medium sized construction firm and we have used Microplanner Xpert software to develop and update critical path network diagrams for more than 15 years. Unfortunately the software does not run on our latest Windows operating systems (Win Server R2 2012 64x) and Win 8.1 x64) and the work arounds are just too cumbersome for most users. We are looking to change our software and are considering either Primavera or Project 2013.
We basically use the software to always create a network diagram first, identifying a critical path and baseline with early start and finish dates. We update our projects fortnightly and require a Gantt chart for reporting. Its important to us to be able to see on the Gantt chart the original program vs the updated program to determine whether we are behind or ahead contractually.
We do not really use resource scheduling or costing analysis at this time although it may be useful in the future.
I would appreciate some advice on the benefits and or disadvantages of either software and (I am not exactly sure which Primavera software I should be looking at as there seems to be a wide range of suites.
Our line of work is litigious and we would like to ensure that which ever software we choose.. does not have any fundamental flaws that make it susceptible to be challenged in court.
Any comments or advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.
