I have 1 win98 and 1 win xp mechine
I Installed remote desktop client in win 98
While tring to connect remote desktop to xp mechine i am getting a time out error....

I am using internet connection

Do you have any firewall software running on the XP machine or are you using a router?

Is the XP Home Edition or PRO?

You need the XP to be PRO, and Remote Desktop enabled.
You need to add that username as a full user on your XP machine.

If you have done all of this, than it sure sounds like a firewall and/or a port forwarding issue as smah indicated.

Thank you for your reply.

I am having xp pro and i enabled remote desktop in
system -> remote tab.

norton internet security is running but i desabled it by right clicking in task bar.

i am not using router

Both computer i connected to internet using same
username (ISP) (not isdn)
and using IP address for remote desktop

what is port? I have no idia about port.

At a minimum you need to have port 3389 forwarded through your router and NIS software on both ends for this connection to work.

This site may help, I consider it the ultimate resource on Microsoft remote connectivity:
