Please if anyone can help me set up my 8400b Data Mod to connect to my switch. What I am trying to accomplish is to connect from my computer using the data mod to connect to my switch to administer stations on the switch. I have set up in my extension on my phone with the data mod. I have edited the the data mod page on my extension number. Also I have set the data mod up as a basic hayes 2400 modem is that correct.

But from here on I dont know how to connect to my swith. Also I see alot of posting on editing the default programming in the data mod. Where is that page to do so cause I cant seem to find it. I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me cause I really need to set this up.

Thanks so much

Hi,
What type of terminal programm do you use?
Data module supports 9600 and 19200 bps try to set this speeds in your terminal program.
The best way - try to use Terranova or Procomm.
You have to make netcon data modules in your Definity switch before access from 8400B by entering
add data-module xxxx command (type: netcon) four times. Then you should add hunt-group xx and include netcon data-modules into this hunt-group.
Then go to terminal programm and make command ATD{ext. netcon hunt-group XX}.
Regards

Dimas:

I am using procomm.

What do you mean when you say I have to make netcon data modules in my switch? Can you clearify that a little for me. I dont know if this is any of a use but I did go into the netcon and printed the information that I have in there already is there some settings I have to change or something.

ALso yes I do have the modem at 9600bps my mistake on the recent post. I thought that I can just use my current extension to add the data module cause it does add another page to my extension page. I did edit it like you said there.

As I have said before I have not used the data mod attached to an extension I set it up by it self as a net com data mod. Unfortunatly I am not using it anylonger so the config has been deleted. sorry José

Please let me know if this was helpful

First, make command
list data-modules
If you'll see netcon type data modules in the listing that means you don't need to add them.
(Netcon datamodules- are virtual channels for programming access to Definity proccessor.)
You can dial any one of them from procomm or may be somebody already made hunt-group with netcon data-modules for you - it is no difference how to call- dial datamodule extension or dial hunt group with all that members if you one single administrator of this switch. Make list hunt-group command for more info.
If you run procomm and make right COM-port and 9600,N,8,1 settings you will have echo of printed letters
AT,ATZ ....
Try to dial a netcon extension. For example: ATD5199
If you will not have a Login: prompth after several seconds I think you should make some changes in S-registers of your 8400B(set speed 9600 and stop all internal loop-back testing), but ordinary for programming access only it doesn't need.
Regards

Thanks Dimas ill give that a try....

Ok, I was able to get in now using Hyperterminal though. What are the commands to move to the next page and stuff. The other keyboard that came with the systems has like help buttons and stuff like that but an ordinary keyboard dont have the help button and next page button and stuff like that. Can I somewhere configure my keyboard to be able to control the pages like my keyboard upstairs. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Oh, also I cant seem to logg off. When I click disconnect, the light on the data mod still lights up and im still connected to the switch even I disconnected from it and close out Hyperterminal. The only way I can really disconnect from the switch is to turn off my data mod. Is there any way for me to truly disconnect from my switch.

OK
Now you need to change Esc-sequences for special lucent command:

Gray Enter ^[SB
Gray / (Cancel) ^[Ow
Gray - (Help) ^[Om
PgUp ^[[V
PgDn ^[[U

In Procom+ you do it by pressing Alt+F8. About Hyperterminal I don't now
may be you should change for it functional keys F1-F12.
What about disconnect , i think it's normal that your data module shows ON-LINE.
After finish your working into Definity session you just make LOGOFF command.
Regards

I dont have the Alt+F8 option. I have a Alt+M option for Keyboard Macros editing thats about the only option that I see when I do a Alt+F10 for help. I tried editing the keyboard macros but it doesnt do anything. Also I forgot to metion that I dont get the option to logg off even when I type logoff on the bottom of the screen. I guess its because im not getting the command: like I'm suppose to get at the terminal on the bottom of the screen.

What emulation am I suppose to use if im using procomm. Im using the default ANSI-BBS is it suppose to set it differently.

I still need to set my keyboard so that I can cancel out of the screen and logg off. Also rite now when I close out of the application, I cant get in cause I guess im still logged in or something. I just get a blank screen when I reopen the procomm or hyper terminal and cant type anything into the screen. The only way to get back in is to totally turn off my data mod then im able to get back into the terminal from the procomm or hyperterminal again.

Any other suggestion on how I can manipulate my keys or adjust them. Thanks in advance...

You need emmulation of terminal VT100.
When Definity ask you terminal type (513,715,....){513}
just press Enter.
Before making logoff you must cancel last command.

As long as you're setting this up - i'd buy a copy of DSA from Avaya. It's far easier & much more robust than hyperterminal sessions through a data-module. It has scheduling, templates, terminal interface, GUI interface, etc.

It used to be free, but I guess it's not anymore. Still - it's well worth the $$$ because it was designed to fully support all G3 terminal commands.

DIMAS:
Connection everything is working correctly. The only problem I'm having rite now is having a Cancel,Next page, and Help key to press. Once I get into the system of a page, I can't cancel out of it cause I dont have a key to do so. So I can't logg out cause in order to log out I need a to get the command: on the bottom. What I really need now is to set up some keys in either Procomm or Hyperterminal.

PBXMAN; I'll have to look into it (DSA) and see how much it cost cause business is pretty bad right now for us and I mean very badd. :(

I preffer ProcommPlus (I have old DOS version 2.01 and I like it).
Sorry for repeat it again but I change Key mapping by pressing ALT+F8 in ProcommPluss.
Wich version of Procomm do you have?
Try to find out Help (in my case ALT+Z) and find out how to make Key remapping.
The key meanings( in Esc-seq.) you can see above - they correct.
Regards

I think im using the olderversion from like years ago or so. Im assuming its really old and its in dos mode. Probably dont have the option that you have with the newer release of procomm. Ill have to check out the newer version. Thanks for all your help Dimas I really appreciate it... :)
