I have a Plantronics S12 headset connected to a 1616 ipset. Calls drop in mid conversation on a regular basis. I checked the 1616 user guide and it says that only HIS headsets will work. I cannot find out if the S12 is a HIS headset or not. Does anyone know if it is and would this be why the calls are dropping? Thank you.

The HIS adapter refers to the quick disconnect cord that connects the headset to the phone. They make different ones for diff models. The 16xx use HIS adapters, the 46xx and 56xx IP phones use a HIC adapter. If you are using the wrong connector you will have issues.

The S12 has a base unit which requires power. The actual headset is plugged into it. Also coming out of the base unit is a cord with a standard RJ22 handset plug which connects into the phone headset jack. This would not use a HIS adapter so would I be safe in saying that this is my issue? I need a HIS headset.

You would use the HIS instead of the S12. I have never used the S12 personally. We use either the M22 for older phones or the appropriate HIC/HIS adapter. I took a quick look at the S12 on-line and since it plugs through the handset it should work (unless Plantronics says it does not). There are different settings on the S12 that need to be changed depending upon the phone it is connected to. Have you played with those?
