Hi,

I've got a bit of SQL that I need to put on a report in Crystal Reports version 9, but when I put the SQL expression field into the report designer and then preview it, all I see is the text of the SQL statement. How do I get the results to show?

Thanks,
Mike

How did you create your SQL Expression? Sounds like you may have entered an SQL expression and a string into a formula instead of actually creating an SQL Expression:

Insert Fields, Scroll down to SQL Expression Fields, New...

CUT, Visual CUT, and DataLink Viewer:
view, e-mail, export, burst, distribute, and schedule Crystal Reports.

A bit of SQL makes me nervous, does this mean that you have a select statement, or???

SQL Expressions:
SQL expressions are like formulas, but they are written in Structured Query Language (SQL), not in the Crystal Reports formula language. An SQL expression can be used to query the database for specific sets of data. You can sort, group, and select based on SQL expression fields.

If you have a customized select statement, you'll need version 9, and the SQL Expression is not the right place for that.

Perhaps if you post what you intend to do, with version numbers (CR and database), sample data and expected results you'll get a more targeted response.

Thanks for the responses. In reading through posts here and at Experts Exchange, I've pieced together that what I really wanted to do was use a sub-report. If only CR 9 came with decent documentation.

Again, thanks,
Mike
