Hi All,

I'm the process of replacing one PIX firewall with another and have hit an issue that is driving me around the bend. I have done a basic configuration on a PIX 515E (6.3(4))which will replace my exisiting PIX 515 (6.3(3)), and have added in the usual static and access-list commands for my SMTP server. However I don't recieve any email at all, if I put the old PIX back online all works well.

Config as follows: -

How do you mean?

It's under the names command in the config: -

fixup protocol sqlnet 1521
fixup protocol tftp 69
names
access-list 100 permit tcp any host {Server IP} eq smtp
pager lines 24
mtu outside 1500
mtu inside 1500

It's hard to determine it without seeing the address... Your access-list needs to show the public address and not the private address... I mean by hiding your addresses in your config on this website, it's hard to tell what you have in it.

I see, sorry about that. In the config file I can confirm that the access-list does show the public address and not the private address.

Is ACL 100 located on your outside interface?

Yes - access-group 100 in interface outside.

Verify these statement:
static (inside,outside) {IP Address - outside public address} {IP Address - inside mailserver address} netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0

and...

access-list 100 permit tcp any host {Server IP - outside public address} eq smtp
This should allow SMTP traffic to flow unhindered towards your mailserver host-address.
