hello,
I've been told that I need to upgrade the PDM so that it'll load in Java better and not crash IE. Right now I'm running PDM version 3.0(1) and PIX version 6.3(3). How do I upgrade the PDM? Do I need to upgrade the PIX as well?
thanks,
david

Yes, upgrade the Pix image too, 6.3 (5) is available and if you have a contract with Cisco (you must have to get the latest PDM), download it and upgrade the 2 together. Once downloaded, copy them both to the root of your TFTP server and then issue the following commands from the CLI:

copy tftp flash (enter) - now follow the prompts
Address of remote host 192.168.1.x (the IP of your PC with the TFTP server running - substitute your PC IP)
Sorce File Name pix635.bin (this is the file you downloaded earlier)
copying tftp://192.168.1.x/pix635.bin to flash
[yes/no/again]? yes (type yes) Now press enter and the upgrade will begin

You'll see loads of '!!!!!!' across the screen and then 'pixfirewall#' when the upgrade is complete. That's the OS upgraded

Now upgrade the PDM image, enter the following command:

copy tftp flash:pdm (enter)

Now follow the prompts as you did before (the only difference here is the name of the file you get prompted for which will be the name of the pdm image, pdm-304.bin in this case). Note - you MUST use 'flash:pdm' when asked for the file name. If you miss off the ':pdm' at the end you'll overwrite the OS image - not good. I've never overwritten the OS so I couldn't tell you what the effects are - you should be able to install the OS again (can't see why not) as per the previous instructions but possibly a buggered PIX so be careful! Maybe someone else can chip in and clarify this ?

Hope this helps. If in doubt, get someone in to do this for you. Alternatively, if my instructions are not clear enough, stop what you are doing and either browse the Cisco website for instruction or open a TAC case with Cisco (your SmartNet contract will allow this) and they will guide you through this. Good luck!

Regards Colin.
