Hi there,

Does anybody know why Pivot tables won't show any text passed 255 characters

Example:

I have this in a cell:

Steel; electrically operated security roller shutter doors; Kirkcraig Limited or other equal and approved; standard perforated roller shutter doors, boxes with integral lintel support and guides bolted to masonry base; 6 thick galvanised steel; all metal surfaces to receive polyester powder coated finish; installed in full accordance with manufacturer's printed instructions

And this is what the Pivot Table shows:

Steel; electrically operated security roller shutter doors; Kirkcraig Limited or other equal and approved; standard perforated roller shutter doors, boxes with integral lintel support and guides bolted to masonry base; 6 thick galvanised steel; all metal

Thanks In Advance!

Could be that pivot tables are based on calculations. Excel may be chopping off part of the text due to calcs. Pivot tables aren't really designed for showing notes - more for summarised aggregates

1 question though - have you tried manually resizing the cell - is the text chopped or canyou still ee the full text in the formula bar ??

Hi Geoff,

I've resized and its not that. The chopped down version only appears in the formula bar!

Any further help would be really appreciated. I was printing these documents and sending them out for quotations. The example shown would mean that the Polyester Powder Coating would be missed of any quotation that I would receive!

Cheers,

Not sure there is anything that can be done here. Looks like the limit is 255 chars. Can't find anything in help
about max field size but tried one with 254 chars and one with 256 and sure enough, the 256 got truncated...

I think the string to array example is the one that could help you - what it does is basically query anexcel range to put the data into an array rather than pick it straight up from the worksheet
