is there anyway I can determine what my ping rate is?

Hi,

At the command promt, you can ping yourself:

ping 127.0.0.1 <return>

and it will give you the response time in nanoseconds (ns).

Or you can ping another address, once connected to the net, if you know their ip address or you can use a friendly name like

http://www.whatever.com

and it should show you how long it takes to get an answer back.
