PHP Chat Install question..

I am currently trying to install an opensource php chat room on my site. I downloaded the file and have placed this downloaded file into /var/

http://www//html/chat.

I am a bit perplexed about the instructions, I have not unzipped the file yet because I am not sure if this should be placed in my root dir. If it is root, where in root?

Make sure the web server is able to write to the history.htm, messages.htm and online.txt
files. "MY QUESTION- What do the instructions mean by this?"

I know these instructions may seem obvious to others, but for me they seem too vague.

I *think* that by "root" the instructions mean your webroot, so wherever your pages are stored: on my machine it would be c:\ibserver\

on your install it will be somewhere else as you are obviously not running windows!
