Photoshop Page for DW MX Web 2

Hi

I've spent most of my design time doing Art features by way of Photoshop 7 and am now focusing more time on Dreamweaver.

My Photoshop Page - intended for the web - consists of a central column/panel containing all the page detail. The background is dark which consists essentially of two black panels on each side of the centrepiece.

My centrepiece has all the buttons, intended link images, curves, gradients and bevels but the page at the moment is only a .psd file.

In your valued opinion, what is the best way to "Dreamweaver" this into a web page.

Do I "save for web" and then place the image file into a Dreamweaver table so I can Image Map and link the active areas?

the best way is to start from blank page and then use tables (or layers) to reconsruct the same look of your PSD file into HTML
...insert image..allign it etc.
u would want to use tables to accomodate for the images...if the image is too big then needs to be edited in PS rather than usig DW (html) to resize them.

I have done this in a different manner - I recommend:

1. using the slice image tool to cut any sections you want to have rollovers in or where there are large areas of solid colors.
2. Save for web and PS will automatically save in tables for you, in order to remove images, just give the table cell the same dimensions as the image section. You can then color the table cell the color of your choice. (Another approach is to set the image quality settings lower for the solid areas and set them as background images in the cells you want to add content to.)

I found a few issue with PS and html produced by it and perhaps your have experienced them as well:

1. editing JS used for rollovers has to be done by hand
while if u use DW you can easily edit the JS without handcoding
2. editing tables can result into 'odd shifts' depending how your TD/TR tags are setup in Image ready.

Optimization and slicing is what you should use PS/IR for while DW for html...that is asuming that DW is your choice for future html edits etc.
then again, depends on each persons habbits! ;-)
1 thing is for sure...PS + DW is THE way to go!
