Phones not displaying user name

We have two 4610 phones on our Definity phone system and the rest are digital sets. I noticed that on the 4610 phones the user name is not shown. They just show a symbol. I have asked the phone vendor to fix this, but they want to charge for it. Obviously I don't want to do that.

Has anyone seen this before and do you have any suggestions that might help me out? I intend to keep adding VOIP phones and phase out the digital phones and this will become more of a problem as time goes on.

If the names of the extensions that do not show up, start with @ or ~~, these names don't show up in the directory.

Handy way to hide them....

maybe the names on the extensions have some sort of special character that prevents them from showing up on the 4610's screen ?

If you're talking about when you call the 46xx phone or when the person calls from it, there is a field in the COR form: Mask CPN/NAME for Internal Calls? y which may be what you're looking for... If it's set to 'y', then it will hide the name. If set to 'n' it should behave normally.

Both of these are very good ideas and I checked them, but the problem is also on the handset when it is sitting on-hook and not just on calls. The display should show the extension and name, but instead just shows the wierd character.

This was working properly before our phone vendor reloaded the software in the phone system. They want to charge to fix this, and I don't want to pay - or if I do I don't want to pay them. I feel they should have made this work properly as part of the reload. I'll pay someone else to fix this if I have to!
