I have PCTEL 2304WT v.9X MDC modem running on a dell Lattitude C640.

At startup 3/4 of the way through the progress bar, the sound card produces a sound that sounds like a hiss. The sound goes away after the desktop appears.

After looking at the volume controls I found that the "Phone Line" was set to mute. Unchecking the mute button made the "hiss" constant even after the boot was complete. I have checked the "Never Dial a connection" radio button in internet connection properties. I have also tried disabling the modem to remove the hiss, with no sucsess.

Tried updating the modem drivers.....no help

Any ideas???

Cheers,

At you can find the modemcommands.

In this case you should use ATM0 (<--zero) to switch to "speaker always off".
(ATM1 = "speaker on until connected" and ATM2 = "speaker always on")
You have to enter these strings somewhere in your modemsettings in windows.
I think you can also put the string in front of the telephonenumber you are dialing, but that is not very neat :)
