Phaser 560 - how to reset fuser count, and toner count

Yes... and I have a similar problem... a fuser roll that has not expired, but a machine - Phaser 560 - that tells me it has and has stopped printing. How do you reset the internal counter for the fuser roll such that the machine will run again?
Alternatively, what is there about a new fuser roll that makes the printer see it as new and automatically re-set its counter and start running again? And how can this be simulated in an old fuser roll?
I object strongly to replacing parts at high cost when it is not necessary!
Oh... and I am in the UK so giving me a US phone number as a reply is a bit of an expensive option!

Further information on Phaser 560 consumables - this time from Xerox Europe:
Fuser Roll: Each one has a fuse installed - the printer senses a new unit by the fact that the fuse is intact. Replace the fuse and the printer thinks it's a new fuser roll and resets its counter.
Other consumables: Life expectancy measured by average coverage per print - at an average of 5% coverage, life expectancy is 15,000 pages. There are no fusable links in these components.
Toner cartridges - a photo sensor is used to gauge whether the cartridge is empty or not.
I can't guarantee it, but it seems likely that other models use similar sensing mechanisms
