Phantom calls from 500 line

I have an issue where a 500 type line which used to be for a modem has called and left very long voice mails of dead air. Only one person has reported calls like this and of course it is the VP of IT. This has happened to him before from another old modem line. In both cases when I traced out the line it was not wired to anything so I OUTed the number.

But of course I need to find out what is causing a phone line that is not wired to anything call and leave voice mails to my VP.

This is on an Option 61c Ver 4.5 with Meridian Mail

If this is a DID number ,you may want to verify that the extension is not being pointed somewhere in the IDC Table: LD 49

it can't be the build on the tn, unless it's a mnl, hot d to his number... no hunt no forward.. idc or a ghost.. is the vp's number one that gets miss dialed a lot? i had an IT big shot think he wanted key 0 scr 1800, until he found out how many times users missed the 9(ac1) and tried to call a toll free number..

I have had this come back again. This is the 3rd time my VP has had the issue of these phantom calls. Oddly enough all 3 have come from unused numbers on card 28-0-15. Could a problem with the card cause this?

I have removed the most recent but I really don't want this to happen again so I need to find a cause.

I also have been wondering if it is not his main line but one of the other lines on his phone that could be receiving the calls. The numbers are 0211, 1211, 1281, 0288. Any one see a reason why lines with nothing plugged in would dial these numbers?

Does the VPs extension start with a 1 ? Any DN starting with 1 and the next three digits being a commonly dialed NPA - well, they are gonna get wrong numbers every time someone forgets to dial 9.

As for the calls coming from numbers seemingly not in service, I'd be suspicious that he is correctly telling you the actual number that the call came from.

In addition, set modem lines to CLS XFR so they cannot be "flashed" by a modem that has too short of a time between dialing numbers.

Check the IDC table, sometimes spare DN's are routed to a console LDN or a similar number diverted to the operator. If this number has been reused and is now one of the VP numbers when his phone is diverted to voicemail the calling line ID of the caller is always the original dialled number, in this case the original number in the IDC table.

Nothing in IDC that lists any of the numbers on the VPs phone or the modem lines.

I do think he is giving the correct numbers as they are listed as the dialing number in the voice mail message "you have a voice mail message from ext xyz"

Some of his extensions do begin with 1 but why would the calling number be listed as a number that is not in use. The most recent line was in the IT office but at a desk that is no longer used.
