I have twice now gotten BSOD with a stop error of PFN_LIST_CORRUPT within the last couple of days. XP has only been running since last friday.!!!

I have googled it and what I seem to understand is that this stop error has somehow to do with the memory modules.

This computer was rebuild in 04 and until last week ran w2000 with this stop error NEVER APPEARING.

Can anyone tell me why all of a sudden it pops up. The only difference is that installed a new wd HD and os. It was not an upgrade, but a clean install.

Does this mean I have to replace the mem modules, running 1gb, or is there something else that I can do to remove the thread of this stop error?

If this error is occurring randomly, this is indicative of memory problems or failure. I would test to see if your RAM module(s) may be failing. Create a disk of one of these Memory Diagnostic programs and run them. If they report back errors, then you will need to replace the failing RAM module(s). If you have two memory modules installed, you could also try to isolate the problem by pulling one of the modules out and running your system on only one module. If your computer crashes on that module, pull that one and try the other one to see if it will crash. I believe the diagnostic programs below will report which slot is reporting errors if you run the test with both modules installed too.

- Windows Memory Diagnostic

- Memtest86

This issue may also be caused by a bad driver. So you may want to check for unsigned device drivers.

Also, have a look at thread779-1273481. I'm leaning towards one of your RAM modules is failing. So, you may be in the market of buying a new module. Hopefully, it isn't the slot itself on the motherboard as was the case with my laptop recently.

Thanks.
I managed to make a bootable disk with windows Memory Diagnostic.

Left it in the floppy drive and when the BSOD happend again, I rebooted so I could turn it off and had forgotten about the floppy, and all of a sudden the test started running. It passed all tests except for the Stride6. I have stopped keeping track, but it is now on pass 47, and it has failed on about 10passes with stride6.
Do you happen to know what this exactly means? Luckily I had bought just last month my first laptop and it is a godsend.

What I plan to do is junk the mem modules and max out the mem bank, which can hold only 1.5gb. I figure if only one is bad, the other may fail in the near future, and they seem to run about $60. I hope to get them cheaper as I know someone that works there.

Another question: the motherboard says it needs PC-133 DIMM Slot x3 and when I looked at modules at best buy there was quite a variety. Are dimms ddr modules?

I seem to have tough luck with them, as the memory went bad also on my first desktop.

Thank you again.

Went to crucial and had them scan my system. They recommanded one mem module - 512MB, 168-pin DIMM, SDRAM, PC133 memory module.

So now I know the correct module to get that will allow me to upgrade the mem and I hope no more BSOD.
