HI

I have had problems with XP for some time, upgrading my system piece by piece and finally gave up on trying to make it work right. The computer always shut off and booted again with an error that "was caused by a device driver". XP never did say which driver. When i installed a fresh copy, (reformatting first) windows came up with a stop screen -- PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. According to microsoft (source page included below), this problem is caused by a device driver passing bad memory descriptor lists. HCL lists showed that all of my hardware (also listed below) passed compatibility requirements. i am going to take out all hardware, and see if i can eliminate the bad driver, but would appreciate advice that may lead me to a problem that im not seeing.

Koolance System with:
MBI motherboard (not on HCL?) for dual pIII's
2 x 1.0ghz pIII's
512 Mb of SDRAM
Matrox Parhelia AGP card
Western Digital 120GB HD
Linksys 10/100 NIC
SB live Sound Card (older)
Sony CD recorder
Sony DVD player
and 3 1/2" floppy, Zip 100

the microsoft link is:

technical info is:
(0x99) (0x5A42) (0x01) (0x0)
According to microsoft, this means:
a PTE or PFN is corrupt.

Thanks in advance! Karl

A couple more things that might help. In other forums i saw that memory could also cause this. When the system boots up, it reads not 512mb of memory, but 524mb, i thought this was suspicious so how do i check my ram?

also on my video card, there is 128mb of DDR RAM, and i have SDRAM in my system so im wondering if they are interfering with each other???

Thanks again - karl
