i accidently took out "Everyone" from a folder permissions that pertains a certain file that's needed. is there a way for me to gain access to the file after stupidly hitting apply and ok. is there a tool i can gain access to it other than read only?

If you're logged in with an Administrator account (or a member of the Administrators group), you can take ownership of the folder and re-establish the permissions for Everyone.
