I am facing the choice of learning Perl or ASP. But i am not sure which one has a brighter future. I understand that Perl is mostly used in Unix internet server, and ASP is used mostly in Microsoft internet server. Maybe the question should be "which kind of internet server has the brighter future?"

Thanks in advance.

Well, if you are posting in the Perl Forum I guess the answer would be Perl :)

However, from the point of view of learning, you may find ASP easier, as it is rather like Visual Basic. I don't think ASP as such thing as 'Regular Expressions handling' though!

You will find much wider support for perl than for asp. There are some ISPs that will not support asp at all, but most will support perl. I know next to nothing about asp, but I've never had a problem accomplishing what I want in perl, and there are so many available packages and modules that I don't have to worry about reinventing the wheel when I need to do something.

Do you want to acquire just "web skills" or would you like to learn a full featured language that is very good for web stuff and capable so much more?

Additionally, once you learn Perl, it is a short step to PHP.

I would go Perl.

'Hope this helps.
Good Luck.

oh yeah, if you go Perl, you have all of us to help you out. ( and can there be a better group of people ;-) )

Thank you all.

I would not put all my skills in Microsoft's basket. I will try Perl and Unix.
