Perl 5.10

I'm currently compiling Perl 5.10, but I'm not entirely sure how well it'll get along with Perl 5.8. Should I `yum remove perl` before installing the new Perl? It seems like if Perl 5.10 installs its binary to /usr/lib/perl, and then yum wants to update or change Perl 5.8 later, it'll mistakenly modify the newer version of the Perl binary.

Alright, I think I answered my own question after seeing what 'yum remove perl' would've wanted to remove: practically everything.

I'll just add `perl` to the exclude list so that yum won't try to update it in the future then. Cuz chances are, this being Red Hat Enterprise, it will probably be quite reluctant to upgrade to Perl 5.10 of its own free will and would instead update to Perl 5.8.something-more-secure and that'd mess up my 5.10 installation. ;-)
