performance log/alert service stops with err. when started

hello,


performace logs and alerts service stops automatically when i start it using services applet. It doesn't raise any error.

Pls. help me to solve this problem.I need to set performance counters but it shows nothing. How can i repair performance logs and alerts service. Should i reinstall file C:\WINNT\system32\smlogsvc.exe

How can i extract file using windows2000
