Sorry - I know this probably isn't quite the right forum but I can't see one that might be.

We recently moved all our addresses over from a class C network to a class A network.

Since the change a lot of the PC's (mainly XP) have been very sluggish when you go to unlock the workstation - the machine hangs for sometimes up to 2-3 minutes before you can do anything with it.

We are running an NT Domain but have 2 2003 servers on it - one of which is my new DHCP server. Wins lives on the NT PDC. It was suggested (but not in relation to this issue) that I might want to set up a local DNS server. Do you think this might help me with the performance issue ?

Any suggestions much apreciated.

Yes, you should use an internal DNS. Since this is NT domain , I am assuming you have the WINS server. I would check the WINS settings alos.

But, I don't think the DNS server would help with the issue you are having. Why? by default DNS is the last thing the client will query when trying to find resources on an NT domain.

Let me ask you this:
When you changed from a class C to A, did you place all your devices in the same subnet. And if so, how many devices are on your subnet(Servers, workstations, printers, etc...)?
Too many devices on a single subnet can cause havoc with the amount of broadcasting going on. Also, are you using switches or Hubs on your network?
