pentium III upgrade

i have just bought a pIII 800Mhz processor. This is to upgrade my current 450Mhz P3. Having removed the processor from my machine, whilst still inside its housing, i do not seem to be able to seperate the cpu, fan, heatsink etc from the "unit" they are all in. Not wanting to yank it around before i no how to seperate them properly could anyone give me a decent link containing guidance of how to seperate them (and the rest of the task as well would be beneficial!)or some quick guidance of how to do it.
