What is the best way/method to use a PDF file as the format or background for a Crystal Report? Is this possible and where is a good place to find information about this? Im having trouble locating ANY!

Thanks
Ralphy

Ralphy,

Tust export the report(s) you are talking about and choose a PDF format. I have never had a problem doing this and I just did it yesterday however I don't normally use PDF. Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports, Goldmine and MS Office

Im not familiar with pdf either. I am trying to use Crystal Viewer for ALL reporting. We are updating a system, which has reports already created in PDF format. The layouts are very important because they are GOVERNMENTAL forms/layout. We cannot use PDF for reporting, we must use crystal and try to import PDF format to crystal. Any ideas? Thanks.

You need V8.5 to create an export report in PDF format. PDF is a document format specification, it doesn't have anything to do with reporting.

After you create a Crystal report and execute it, you can then export the report to a variety of formats including RTF, Excel, PDF, etc.

If you build a front-end in Visual Basic or other tool, you can have the user execute the report and export it to PDF without further user intervention (viewing the report and clicking on the Export button, choosing the format, etc.).

I am NOT trying to export anything. I am trying to put a PDF document ONTO a crystal report. I can export all day long, that is NOT a problem. I dont want to do that. I need to layout a PDF as the FORMAT for a CRYSTAL REPORT. Can I go PDF TO CRYSTAL? NOT CRYSTAL TO PDF. THE USERS WILL NOT LIKE THAT, it is inconsistent with DESIGN. (CRUCIAL to the state government).

Hi Ralphy,

I don't think you can "Import" a PDF file into Crystal.

I assume you want to import some kind of a PDF and use it as an underlay maybe?

Anyways, I've never heard of this being done... sorry!!

Nuffsaid.

Thanks. That is what I needed to hear. i didnt think it was possible either. Even with 8.5. Thank you.

ralphy isnt my real name. i tried numerous other handles, this is the only one that works. thanks

Hi, found a solution. This will only work with Adobe Reader 5.0 and higher. What you do is use the GRAPHICAL SELECTION TOOL, from the toolbar, and select your "area". Cut it and paste it into a word document. From the CRYSTAL REPORT, use the popup menu and select INSERT, OLE. Then when the OLE prompt comes up, choose FROM FILE..., and choose the word document you just created. Then VIOLA! There you have a layout from a .PDF file on your crystal report. It can be done.

Congratulations!!!!!

Something I will keep in mind for the future..

Nuffsaid.
