how can i swicth my old pdc to a bdc into a new domain with his own pdc.

I think you have to reinstall it. There is no other. You can demote a PDC to a BDC if u r having two PDC's in a single domain.

it will have to be rebuilt as a bdc and you cannot have 2 PDC's in one domain

Or if you have a little money to spend and plan on running WINNT for a while a worhwhile software purchase would be 'UPROMOTE'. Just google it if interested. You can demote a PDC to BDC. Promote a BDC to PDC. Demote a PDC to member or BDC to member server without ever having to rebuilt.

You'll need to reinstall and add it to the other domain.

There may be some 3rd party addins out there, but in NT is quarkey enough.

You can demote a PDC to BDC. Promote a BDC to PDC. Demote a PDC to member or BDC to member server without ever having to rebuilt only if they are in the same domain. You can't demote a PDC to a BDC for joining any other domain. It can only work in the existing domain.

Psingh,

If you read my post again, you will see that I was decribing a third party software called 'UPROMOTE' which is designed to help NT admins change server roles on the domain without having to completely reinstall operating systems.

Just found a free utility that will allow you to do this,
It took a bit of trial and error to get it working A1, as initially we had the two PDCs problem, with netlogon errors, however the final solution after changing the SIDs using the utility, was on the old PDC (not the one you are adding) delete any accounts that have been added, reboot the new PDC, after it has been rebooted add it to server manager on the old PDC as a BDC, then open server manager on the new PDC both the old and new appeared as PDC's - simply demote the new one to BDC and hey presto job done.

Note we did this on a live network and no problems whatso ever, it was just a case of using server manager in the right order.

The more you know, the more you realise there is to know....

Just that back through - the accounts to be deleted are those added for the new PDC that you wish to become BDC no others.
