PDC not updating when changes in AD are made

Im running W2K Advanced server. I have 3 servers: a PDC, BDC, and exchange 2000. When I make changes in AD on my BDC or my exchange server, it does not update on the PDC.

Is it because I have to split the roles? Or Global Contact list?

Can anyone tell me what the problem is and possible a tutorial page? Thank you.

Most problems like this are usually caused by DNS problems. I would check there after looking at the event logs.

For clarification I want to point out that if your network is Win2K you don't have PDC and BDC's anymore. All servers are just DCs. They act as peers.

There is a PDC emulator role but that is only needed if you are in mixed mode and have NT4 BDCs in your domain.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark

Mark is correct that there are no PDCs and BDCs, but the PDC emulator is still used in a native mode domain (a domain with no NT domain controllers).

Domain controllers will check with the PDCe to see if a user's password has been changed, since password changes are replicated to the PDCe before the rest of the DCs in the domain.

The PDCe is also the server where all group policy changes are made by default. If you edit a GPO on any machine in the domain, the console will always snap to the PDCe.

Thanks for that clarification mlichstein.

I was rather sure of my answer on this and just went back to read a description of the PDC Emulator role from an MSPRess Book and it says"

The PDC Emulator role is used whenever a domain contains non-Active Directory computers. It acts as a Windows NT PDC for legacy client operating systems, as well as for Windows NT BDCs. The PDC Emulator processes password changes and receives preferential treatment within the domain for password updates. if another domain controller is unable to authenticate a user due to bad password, the request is forwarded to the PDC Emulator.

I interpretted that because of that first line if there were no non-AD servers that it was not used at all. I appreciate you setting that straight for me, it is very good to know, especially about the Group Policies.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Thanks guys, I will check the event log and the DNS.
