PCMCIA USB2 adapter won't allow USB storage device to work on my Acer Travelmate 220 laptop. The device is however recognised on the integral USB1.1 connection and works perfectly, if more slowly than the desired USB2 connection probably would.

Have you loaded the drivers for the PCMCIA card? On my laptop, I had to load the drivers and use a power adapter for a USB 2.0 external drive.
