If the Lexmark truly has a 3of9 font built in, then you
will have to print out a typeface listing to find the
correct escape sequence to enable the font. You will have to refer to the manual to see how you get the listing.
I would enable the barcode as a secondary font and jump to it when the barcode field is to print. If necessary, you could add the *'s when you make the font switch.
As to whether or not the printer will add the *'s, I couldn't say. Check the manual, or better yet a test should be enlightening.
