Hi,
my sons have their PC upstairs and they have been complaining that it won't turn off when they use the proper order. I reckoned it was them that done something wrong, but now my PC won't turn off using the proper procedure we share the same router, maybe a virus!!
Having problems with getting unwanted icons on my desktop.

hope someone can help........BigDin

When I had the same problem, Xp would not shut down - only rebooted, it turned out to be a faulty Logitech Keyboard driver - removed it, and it works again.

Check 'properties' on the unwanted icon. This should give you a clue to the name of the malware that's been dumped on you. From the control pannel, try removing it using 'Add or Remove Programs'.

You do also need good anti-virus software, as the others said. I have Norton's at home, came with the computer and has kept it clean, as far as I know. It certainly has warned me of attempted downloads by websites I was just visiting.

Hello All,
I am using McAfee plus firewall, once every three weeks I run, Adaware, search and destroy, Ashampoo,Shredder, Spybot, Hijack this now I have also ran Trend Micro. But i am still getting little annoying problems sopmething keeps taking my default web address and I have a search bar i don't want, but I could suppose I am lucky because it's a very long time since I had anything serious. But after I ran Trend micro today I could shut my PC down normally, so it will be interesting here shortly when I shut it down again. I'll try that with the icons if they come again.

thanks again to all Tek-Tip members.....Denis
