Hi, just installed a brand new AMD Athlon XP 2800+ onto a brand new Elitegroup N2U400-A motherboard, along with a ATI Radeon 9800 card I had on my old system along with the power supply from the old system. I try to boot up and the system hangs there, no beep or anything. The monitor acts like the computer isn't on, the CPU fans and fans on the Radeon 9800 are spinning fine, so I'm wondering if my problem is the video card or the power supply?

My old system I had kept booting into BIOS saying that the processor speed was set wrong, so then I'd set it as low as I could go and then it would reboot and hang. If I turned it off it'd go into BIOS again and do the same thing.

I'm willing to switch out the video card and/or power supply if needed but as I would have to buy them first I'd like some ideas on what to do before throwing down the money. Thanks.

is it a P4 power supply?
P4 power supply have 2 cables that go into the board.
old computers(P3,P2) boards have only one.
check it if you have only one you need a P4 power supply.

Yes it's only one connection coming out of the power supply. A P4 you say? I can't see on the motherboard where the second connection would be though I see some kind of 4-pin plastic connector. Would that be it?

Yes that would be it, and that's your problem, your mobo isn't getting enough power. you have to change you power supply so it is supports P4 processors. I am willing to bet that changing the power supply with solve your problem.

With all your new hardware the systems power requirements have exceeded the capabilities of the old power supply, and with that new PSU the extra P4 style plug on the motherboard can also be connected.
Manufactures of AMD motherboards also started fitting this extra power connector about 18months ago, realising the old style power connector was reaching it's design limits and needed help in carry the extra current needed for high end cards and CPU's.
you should really have a 400watt PLUS PSU on this setup, from a quality brand like: Antec, Enermax, Sparkle, Chieftec, FSP, Fortron Power, Channel Well Technologies, Zalman, Hyper Power etc

Try resetting the BIOS.

Also look for loose memory and grounding issues.

400 watts is about right for a power supply with a Radeon 9800. 300 watts is not enough. Some people would go to about a 450 or 480 watt power supply. It just depends if you plan on hooking up lights like some people do inside the case.

Last gasp - remove the motherboard and try with only CPU, memory (one stick) and video. See if it will post this way.
