Having problems with Windows XP Pro, computer loads alright in safe mode, but totally freezes at the loading screen with the blue bar. Its a 2.4Gig Athlon in a mini shuttle case. It has a 40Gig, and a 120Gig and is used to store tv shows and movies.

Tried to restore to an earlier point, no such luck. It does go into Safe Mode, ran virus scan, no viruses. There was alot of adware, about 300 incidents. After running Norton, I ran Adaware SE Personal, then Registry First Aid, supposedly alot of problems were removed. Any idea what I could do to get it back from Safe Mode to Normal mode. It totally locks up on the load screen. I tried the bootlog option but I didn't know where it stored the text file so I could find out why it stopped.

Was there any Software or hardware install just before this started, If so remove and or uninstall it from save mode. Done over look windows updates as a sorfware problem.

Enable Boot Logging via Safe Mode.

Starts while logging all the drivers and services that were loaded (or not loaded) by the system to a file. This file is called ntbtlog.txt and it is located in the %windir% directory. Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, and Safe Mode with Command Prompt add to the boot log a list of all the drivers and services that are loaded. The boot log is useful in determining the exact cause of system startup problems.

To get further information about any error look in your Event viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates (no problem if you substitute them with SP2) but your files and programs will be untouched.
